Help with the cost of the funeral

Do you need help with the cost of a funeral? If so, you may find the following information helpful, but should only be treated as general guidance.

DWP Funeral Payments from the Social Fund

If require help to pay for a funeral that you are arranging you could get a Funeral Payment from the DWP Social Fund. The amount you receive depends on your circumstances, and if you qualify. To claim for help with the cost of a funeral you must put your claim in within 6 months of the date of the funeral.

To be ilegiele for help You (or your partner) must receive one of the following:

• Income support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Pension Credit
• Housing Benefit
• The disability or severe disability element of Working Tax Credit
• One of the extra elements of Child Tax Credit
• Universal Credit

How to claim

To claim a for a Funeral Payment you must use the following Form SF200 which can be download from the PDF download link button. You must claim within 6 months of the funeral, even if you are awaiting a decision on a qualifying benefit. You can only make a claim before the funeral if you have an invoice an estimate will not be accepted.

Complete the form and either take it to your local Jobcentre Plus or post it to - FREEPOST DWP Funeral Payments.
